And although she is undoubtedly an obsession, the surprise is the lack of movies documenting Monroe’s life until My Week with Marilyn starring Michelle Williams as a ghostly resemblance of Monroe. It got us thinking … what is with Hollywood’s obsession with blonds?
As a blond entertainer hits the scene they become instant camera magnets, if not paparazzi targets. The movie contracts begin to roll in and before you know it, they become a household name. Grace Kelly was adored by fans. Then, her personal magic was solidified when she became the Princess of Monaco but in her death she became something even more, immortalized.
Victoria Lake’s one-eye persona was the source of inspiration for the character of the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Jessica Rabbit – more than 20 years after Lake appeared in films.
Steve McQueen became known for playing the “anti-hero”. His rugged image was further endorsed by McQueen’s real-life love for racing cars. As of 2007, Steve McQueen is one of the top 10 grossing dead celebrities.
