Lady Spin Doctor: Shejays Are Stealing the Scene
It has been a long-time trend of ‘it’ girls moonlighting as DJs, if not a career itself – Alexa Chung, Sky Nellor, Spinderella (yeah, we took it back). More ladies are taking up DJing and ruling the turntables at late night hot spots than ever before. Have you been to a set spinned by a male DJ lately? The late night crowd seldom boasts an event without a female DJ. The selections are a wicked mix and gets everyone on the dance floor, and let us face it – chicks know what will get other chicks on the dance floor.
Models have long been snagging DJ gigs at the poshest parties but celebs have now also taken to sharpening their skills at designing a set. Cool chick Solange Knowles is known to spin a party or two and new to the scene is recording artist Alicia Keys. Keys is also adding ‘DJ’ to her list of talents but as alter ego ‘DJ AK47′. Her first run? Not too bad -smooth transitions and sick selections, we may see more from the award winning artist.
The nightlife scene is not a scene if not mixed by shejays. Chelsea Leyland, Becka Diamond, Harley Viera-Newton, Mia Moretti, or Alexandra Richards, to name a few, are drawing a large crowd of a certain chic milieu. Invitations are going out this party season and there’d better be a lady DJ signed for the night. It is the look of the new party scene.
Let us have a look at the ladies making it so out-of-trend to have a male doctor at the tables.
