There is a fresh air blowing through New York this fashion week and that air has been brought in by Raf Simons. For his first installation at Calvin Klein Collection, Simons’ did more than give the collection a jolt. The collection has gained a sense of relevancy that is more from the creative vision he debuted today rather than the European name that is now stateside. It was clear not only by his approach to rendering his take of the classic American house but even by the casting of the models. It was a different show that hit the New York runway.
Texture, color, and shape is the rigor of Simons’ Calvin Klein. Feathers and fur under plastic brought an interesting concept to the show. The Calvin Klein suit was ever present although at times they were also wrapped in plastic. Eighties knit sweaters with the torso stripped away to reveal sheer centers caught our eye as a serious must-have.
And the house’s signature denim made a statement of being back, in terms of relevancy, in jumpers and button downs.
Models were diverse in age and looks, a change for this house, which further electrified the collection bringing it to the current global age.
The minimalist house is the buzz of the week with an easy dozen of the looks we predict will be hitting the street style crowd heavy this fall. The 64-look collection in less 120 seconds follows below.
